About Our Founder
and Mission
Mommy Speaks Spanish, Inc. was created by a mother, Angela Wilkes. Angela has a passion for empowering native English speaking toddlers and preschoolers with the foreign language skills to enrich their lives now, and compete in the future. The program begins by teaching basic Spanish which is the foundation for developing foreign language skills. These skills will enhance everyday learning while providing an appreciation for diversity and cultural awareness. The curriculum is age appropriate to match learning development. Children are introduced to language using a variety of tools such as songs, flash cards, books, puzzles, DVDs, and audio CDs. Angela Wilkes, creator and owner of Mommy Speaks Spanish, Inc. is a native New Yorker who has lived in Atlanta for 17 years. Angela decided to start a bilingual program for children after an unsuccessful attempt at locating a Spanish language immersion program for her 2 year-old anywhere in southeast Atlanta. When friends expressed an interest in the program as well, she officially launched Mommy Speaks Spanish, Inc. in March 2007. Angela holds an Associates degree in Foreign Language, with an emphasis in Spanish, from Georgia Perimeter College, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Georgia, with a major in Instructional Psychology, Training, and Technology. |
